SSEN Transmission has expanded its operations with a new offshore hub in Inverness in line with its growth trajectory. The refurbished office space, accommodating up to 100 employees, is dedicated to teams working on the Pathway to 2030 program aimed at enhancing the offshore grid infrastructure.
The office renovation includes meeting rooms named after iconic Highland bridges, adding a local touch to the workspace. Highland Council leader Raymond Bremner inaugurated the hub, emphasizing the importance of this development in supporting SSEN’s ambitious projects in the region.
Director of offshore development and delivery, Sandy MacTaggart, highlighted the significant role of effective collaboration in achieving the goals set out by SSEN. The new office serves as a hub for engaging with global energy industry partners and advancing critical subsea projects essential for the transition to a net-zero future.
The company’s investment in the ASTI Offshore Pathway to 2030 program signifies a commitment to driving energy security and fostering economic growth in the region. The collaborative space at the new hub aims to attract the supply chain to the Highlands, fostering partnerships between local and global businesses.
In addition to the Inverness hub, SSEN is also constructing a new operations warehouse at Inverness Airport Business Park, further expanding its infrastructure in the area. The company’s rapid growth is evident from reaching the milestone of 2000 team members and securing major projects like the Shetland subsea cable link.
The efforts of SSEN Transmission align with the broader goal of creating a sustainable and resilient energy network while supporting local economies and job creation. The ongoing projects, including the Western Isles HVDC Link and Orkney Link, play a crucial role in advancing renewable energy infrastructure and combating climate change.
As SSEN continues to expand its presence in the region, the new offshore hub represents a strategic investment in the future of energy transmission and underscores the company’s commitment to driving positive change in the industry. With a focus on collaboration, innovation, and sustainability, SSEN is poised to make a significant impact on the energy landscape in the coming years.
