Drug Smuggling Case: Two Men Appear in Court for Large Quantity Smuggled via Aberdeen Airport

Two individuals, Marcus Roache, 25, from London, and Humza Ghani, 25, from Ealing, West London, have made an appearance at Aberdeen Sheriff Court in connection with an alleged drug smuggling operation through Aberdeen International Airport. The incident unfolded on New Year’s Eve when authorities at the airport intercepted drugs valued at around £1 million following the arrival of a flight just five days before Christmas.

Legal Proceedings and Charges

The two men were charged with being involved in the supply of drugs and knowingly handling illegal goods prohibited in Scotland. Despite the charges, neither Roache nor Ghani entered a plea during the court hearing, which took place behind closed doors. The case was subsequently committed for further examination, and both individuals were released on bail pending their next court appearance, the date of which is yet to be determined.

Investigation Continues

While Roache and Ghani have made their court appearance, a third individual, a 20-year-old man with ties to Manchester and London, remains under investigation in connection with the smuggling incident. Although he has not yet appeared in court, legal proceedings against him are ongoing.

Proactive Policing Efforts at Aberdeen Airport

The interception of the illicit drugs highlights the diligent work of Border Control officials at Aberdeen International Airport. The suspicious items, originating from Thailand, passed through multiple locations before reaching Aberdeen, underscoring the need for proactive policing measures at such critical transport hubs. Our previous investigation revealed that Police Scotland conducted 724 incidents in 2024, with 363 categorized as police-generated activity, including proactive patrols of airports and their surroundings.

This drug smuggling case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against illicit activities, emphasizing the importance of robust security measures and vigilance in safeguarding our communities from the harmful effects of illegal substances.
