The memorial service for Alex Salmond has been scheduled to take place at Edinburgh’s St Giles’ Cathedral on Saturday, November 30, which is St Andrew’s Day. This service will give friends and family the opportunity to bid farewell to Alex and remember his life and accomplishments.

The family spokesperson mentioned to The Sunday Times that friends of Alex, who have known and worked with him closely for many years, are assisting in organizing a fitting memorial service for the former first minister. It will be a time for attendees to pay their respects and reflect on the legacy that Alex Salmond has left behind.

Invitations for the service are set to be sent out starting Monday, and it is anticipated that John Swinney and representatives from various political parties in Scotland will be in attendance. Additionally, guests from North Macedonia will be extended invitations to honor Salmond’s connections to the country.

Sir Tom Hunter, who generously financed the flight that brought Salmond back home after his passing in North Macedonia, is also expected to be present at the service. However, Nicola Sturgeon, Salmond’s political rival and successor as first minister, is not anticipated to attend.

Preceding the memorial service, a Mass will be held at St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Cowgate to commemorate Alex Salmond’s life and contributions. The funeral service will offer a moment for individuals to bid their final farewells and remember the impact that Salmond had during his time in politics.

Alex Salmond passed away at the age of 69 due to a heart attack while at a conference in North Macedonia last month. He was laid to rest at a private funeral near his home in Aberdeenshire, where he left behind a lasting legacy in Scottish politics.
