Brave Swimmers Take on North Sea for Fraserburgh Boxing Day Swim

On December 26, 2024, brave swimmers and enthusiastic spectators gathered at Fraserburgh Harbour for the annual Boxing Day swim, a tradition that has been going strong for 16 years. Despite the chilly weather, participants were eager to take on the challenge of swimming across the 52-meter stretch of water to support the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and help raise funds for the charity.

Photographer Captures the Action

Photographer Duncan Brown was on hand to capture all the excitement as swimmers lined up to take the plunge into the icy waters of the North Sea. From individuals jumping head-first into the harbour to groups making their way across to the opposite end, Brown’s images captured the determination and spirit of the participants as they braved the cold for a good cause.

Celebrating Success and Community Spirit

As the swimmers completed their challenging swim, the sense of accomplishment and community spirit was palpable. From women sporting woolly hats to men diving in with a splash, each participant showed incredible courage and dedication to supporting the RNLI. The event was not just about fundraising but also about coming together as a community to celebrate the holiday season and spread joy and goodwill.

Spotting Familiar Faces

Among the crowd of swimmers and spectators, familiar faces could be seen, with families like James Brodie and his sons Calum and Alasdair joining in the fun. Even Stormy Sam, the lifeboat’s mascot, made a special appearance to cheer on the participants. The event truly showcased the spirit of camaraderie and support that is at the heart of the Fraserburgh Boxing Day swim.

As we look back on this year’s event, let’s celebrate the bravery and generosity of all those who took part and made a difference for the RNLI. Their willingness to dive into the unknown and push themselves for a greater cause is truly inspiring and a testament to the power of community and compassion. Here’s to many more successful Boxing Day swims in the years to come!
