So, like, there’s this MSP from the SNP, Rona Mackay, who’s all like, “Yo, Scottish independence supporters ain’t gonna be fooled by the far-right’s sneaky tactics.” She was chatting with The National at this event in Glasgow hosted by All Under One Banner over the weekend. She was talking about how important it is for the independence movement to stay united to fight against the rise of Reform UK.
Mackay was all shook up about the recent success of Nigel Farage’s party in the English local elections. She was like, “It’s, like, worse than anyone could have even imagined.” She made it clear that the SNP ain’t gonna have anything to do with Reform UK. She even said that words fail her when it comes to Nigel Farage. Ouch.
Reform UK snagged a whopping 677 council seats in England’s local elections recently. Mackay found it “worrying” how close Farage is getting to power. On top of that, Reform UK scored some wins in mayoral contests in Greater Lincolnshire and Hull and East Yorkshire.
Farage boasted last week that Reform UK is gaining members in Scotland, with, like, 10,000 peeps signing up. But Mackay thinks independence supporters are too smart to fall for the far-right’s tricks. She’s like, “Nah, our peeps won’t go down that road. They know how nasty and divisive it is.” But she’s still stressing the importance of unity to combat it.
Mackay also had some thoughts on Alba Party leader Kenny MacAskill’s comments about putting “country before party.” She was like, “Yeah, we try to do that anyway. We all want independence, been wanting it for ages. We gotta stick together now more than ever to make it happen.”
So, like, it’s clear that Mackay ain’t playing around when it comes to standing against the far-right and fighting for Scottish independence. She’s all about unity and staying strong in the face of challenges. Let’s hope the independence movement can keep it together and push forward towards their goal.
