Costco, the wholesale giant, is considering expanding its offerings in Westhill by building a new petrol station near its mega store at the Arnhall Business Park. This potential development would be located on Endeavour Drive, close to the Tesco filling station. If approved, this would be Costco’s first petrol station in the north-east, as the nearest one is currently in Edinburgh.

The company has announced plans to create petrol stations at most of its UK locations, offering cheaper fuel prices compared to other outlets. Costco currently operates 20 petrol stations across the country, providing savings of about 5p per litre for motorists. These filling stations are exclusive to Costco members, who pay an annual fee to access the store’s bulk deals.

While details about the Westhill petrol station project are limited, planning documents submitted to Aberdeenshire Council indicate that there will be 12 electric vehicle charging points. Costco’s petrol stations are self-service only and do not have attached convenience stores. Therefore, the Westhill outlet is likely to follow the same model.

This potential expansion by Costco adds to the evolving landscape of Westhill’s industrial estate, following the sale of three nearby business plots last year. Kingshill Park, Kingshill Commercial Park, and Prospect Park were all put on the market for a combined price of £34.5 million by the Aberdeen-based Knight Property Group. The decision to sell these parks was made to reinvest and continue the industrial development program.

The Westhill community has been active in various initiatives, such as the successful licensing fight for a beer garden at the Holiday Inn and the collective effort to support the local golf course financially. Additionally, plans for a Farmfoods site in Old Aberdeen were rejected due to traffic concerns, reflecting the ongoing development and decision-making processes in the area.

As Costco explores the possibility of establishing a petrol station in Westhill, residents and motorists can anticipate more competitive fuel prices and convenient services in the region. The addition of electric vehicle charging points aligns with the growing trend towards sustainable transportation options. Keep an eye on future updates regarding Costco’s expansion plans and the changing industrial landscape of Westhill.
