Scottish comedian Janey Godley’s funeral procession took place in Edinburgh, a city she held dear to her heart, before her funeral on Saturday. Her daughter Ashley Storrie described it as her mother’s final tour in the cities she loved the most.

Godley will be laid to rest at St Mary’s Cathedral in Glasgow, where her funeral will be held. Close friend Nicola Sturgeon, former first minister, shared a touching moment when she found herself behind the hearse carrying Godley’s coffin on the way to Glasgow. Sturgeon shared a light-hearted conversation she imagined having with Godley during the journey.

Janey Godley, known for her viral parodies of Sturgeon’s coronavirus briefings, revealed her battle with ovarian cancer in November 2021. Despite receiving the all-clear in 2022, she faced a recurrence of the disease later that year. Godley had been undergoing treatment and had plans to continue touring with her ‘Not Dead Yet’ gigs.

Unfortunately, her cancer returned with complications, leading her to cancel her autumn tour in September. She passed away peacefully in the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow, surrounded by her loved ones. Her funeral will be livestreamed on YouTube, and attendees have been encouraged to wear bright colors in her honor.

The news of Janey Godley’s passing has brought sadness to many, but her legacy as a beloved Scottish comedian will live on. Her unique sense of humor and ability to connect with audiences through her performances have left a lasting impact on the comedy world. As fans mourn her loss, they can find solace in the memories of her laughter and the joy she brought to so many. Janey Godley may be gone, but her spirit will continue to shine bright through her work and the lives she touched.
