The M8 Roadworks Cause Road Closures: Motorists Beware

Transport Scotland has issued a warning to motorists in Glasgow as essential reactive bridge inspections across the M8 Kingston Bridge Complex will result in road closures. The works are set to begin on Monday, March 17, with nightly closures scheduled from 8 pm to 6 am. During this period, several roads in Glasgow city center will be affected, prompting the need for diversions and alternative routes.

Overnight Road Closures

On Monday, March 17, the A804 North Street will be closed between the Broomielaw and Argyle Street. Westbound traffic will be redirected to the Broomielaw westbound to Anderston Quay, while eastbound traffic will follow a separate diversion route. Another closure on A804 Newton Street will impact both westbound and eastbound traffic, with diversions in place to guide motorists through the affected areas.

Tuesday, March 18, will see the continuation of closures on A804 Newton Street, with diversions for both westbound and eastbound traffic. The following day, Wednesday, March 19, two lanes on Argyle Street westbound towards the Clydeside Expressway between Newton Street and North Street will be closed, requiring diverted traffic to follow a specific route. Thursday, March 20, will bring further closures on Argyle Street westbound and A804 Newton Street, with specific diversion routes for affected traffic.

Weekend Closures

As the week progresses, Friday, March 21, will see closures on Argyle Street eastbound between Newton Street and North Street, with diverted traffic directed to the Clydeside Expressway. Additionally, the M8 Junction 18 Anderston off-slip and Junction 17 on-slip will also be closed, necessitating alternative routes for motorists.

Amey spokesperson emphasized the importance of adhering to the designated diversion routes, especially for vehicles entering the Low Emission Zone (LEZ). Deviating from these routes may result in penalty charge notices from Glasgow City Council, underscoring the need for motorists to follow the outlined diversion signage diligently.

Navigating through road closures and diversions can be challenging for any driver, but ensuring compliance with the designated routes is crucial to maintaining safety and order on the roads. By following the provided diversions and being aware of other ongoing roadworks in the area, motorists can contribute to a smoother traffic flow and minimize disruptions for themselves and other road users. Remember, patience and caution are key when encountering unexpected road closures, so stay alert and follow the diversion signs for a hassle-free journey.
