Army reservist Second Lieutenant Kerenza Bryson has had a great start to her Olympic journey in the women’s modern pentathlon event. After the fencing ranking round, she is in fifth place with 230 points, securing 21 victories and 14 losses. Her teammate and defending Olympic gold medallist, Kate French, is currently in third place with 240 points, while France’s Elodie Clouvel is leading the field with 260 points.

The fencing ranking round was a tough challenge for all competitors, with each athlete facing off against 35 others in one-minute bouts. Despite the fierce competition, 2Lt Bryson held her own and now looks forward to the semi-finals on August 10. This is where she will have to showcase her skills in bonus fencing rounds, riding show jumping, a 200-meter freestyle swim, and the laser run.

As the current European champion and the 2023 world championship bronze medallist, 2Lt Bryson is considered one of the favorites to win a medal for Team GB in Paris. Her journey to the Olympics is not only a testament to her dedication and hard work but also highlights the unique path that army reservists can take in pursuing their athletic dreams.

It’s inspiring to see individuals like 2Lt Bryson balancing their military duties with their passion for sports, showcasing the values of discipline, resilience, and commitment that are essential in both fields. As 2Lt Bryson prepares for the semi-finals and aims to secure a spot in the final, her fellow army reservists and supporters will undoubtedly be cheering her on every step of the way. The Olympics are not only a platform for athletes to compete at the highest level but also an opportunity to showcase the diversity and talent of individuals from all walks of life.
