MacGregor’s Bar in Inverness has once again been named Scotland’s Music-led Venue of the Year, marking its second win of the prestigious SLTN Award. Founded by Inverness fiddler Bruce MacGregor in 2018, the bar has established itself as a vibrant hub for musicians and music enthusiasts alike.

Bruce MacGregor, who has been touring the world with his band Blazin’ Fiddles for over two decades, shared his inspiration behind creating MacGregor’s Bar. He noticed a lack of Scottish bars around the world and wanted to showcase the rich culture, music, and history of Scotland in a modern and authentic setting, without the typical cliches of tartan and fake Scottish imagery.

At MacGregor’s, the focus is on Scottish products, with a wide selection of Highland beers, over 90 whiskies, and a unique Highland Malt Whisky Experience that intertwines tasting sessions with local history. The bar also prides itself on supporting local musicians and welcoming international talent, creating a sense of community for artists of all ages and backgrounds.

Over the years, MacGregor’s has hosted a variety of renowned musicians, from Rag’n’Bone Man to Johnny Rotten, showcasing a diverse range of musical talent. The bar has also become a platform for young musicians to showcase their skills, with performers as young as nine years old taking the stage.

Despite his global travels, Bruce MacGregor remains rooted in Inverness, appreciating the unique charm and community spirit of the Highland capital. While there may be a few things he would change about the city, he feels fortunate to call Inverness home and to contribute to its vibrant music scene through MacGregor’s Bar.

The success of MacGregor’s as a top live music venue in Scotland is a testament to Bruce MacGregor’s vision of celebrating Scottish culture and music in a welcoming and authentic setting. As the bar continues to thrive, it remains a testament to the power of music in bringing people together and creating a sense of community in Inverness and beyond.
