The A96 at Forres is completely closed to traffic in both directions following a crash that took place overnight. As of this morning, motorists are still unable to access the road east of Forres due to the incident that occurred at around 2:20 am.
Emergency services, including the fire department, responded to the crash, with one fire appliance present at the scene from 2:21 am until 4:40 am to ensure that the area was safe for traffic.
Details about the crash, such as the number of vehicles involved and whether there were any injuries, remain unknown at this time. Bus services that operate from Alves and Forres Enterprise Park will also be affected until the road reopens, according to Stagecoach.
To help redirect traffic, a diversion route has been set up. Northbound drivers are advised to exit the A96 by turning right onto the B9013 on Burghead Road, continuing until the junction at Roseisle. From there, they should turn onto the B9089 towards Forres and then rejoin the A96 after the Findohorn Roundabout.
For southbound traffic, the recommended route is to exit the A96 by turning left at the Findhorn Roundabout and heading towards Kinloss using the B9011. Drivers should then turn right onto the AB9089 until Roseisle, where they can take the junction onto the B9013 and continue down the A96 at Netwon.
Motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid the area where the crash occurred. Traffic Scotland has advised drivers to follow the signed diversion route and prepare for longer travel times than usual.
