Kilmarnock Secures Deal with Calvin Ramsay on Loan
Former Aberdeen defender Calvin Ramsay is making a return to Scottish football, this time on a loan deal with Kilmarnock for the remainder of the season. Ramsay, who recently cut short his season-long loan spell at Wigan Athletic upon returning to Liverpool earlier this month, is set to join Kilmarnock under the management of ex-Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes. The move comes amidst interest from St Johnstone to bring Ramsay back to the Scottish football scene, but it seems that Kilmarnock has won the race to secure the services of the talented defender.
Frustrations and Setbacks for Calvin Ramsay
Calvin Ramsay, a product of the Aberdeen youth academy, has faced a series of setbacks and frustrations since his move to Liverpool in the summer of 2022. The initial transfer fee of £4.2 million, potentially rising to £6.7 million with add-ons, was a significant deal for Aberdeen, setting a then club record. Under the management of Jurgen Klopp, Ramsay signed a five-year contract with Liverpool, which also included a 17.5% sell-on clause.
Despite making his debut for Liverpool in a Champions League victory against Napoli and earning his first Scotland cap in a friendly against Turkey, Ramsay has struggled with injuries and limited playing time. With only two appearances for Liverpool, Ramsay has had loan spells at Preston North End, Bolton, and most recently Wigan Athletic, where he made just 12 appearances.
A Fresh Start with Kilmarnock
The move to Kilmarnock presents a fresh opportunity for Calvin Ramsay to showcase his talent and regain his form in familiar surroundings. Joining forces with former Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes at Rugby Park could provide the young defender with the stability and support needed to reignite his career and fulfill his potential. As Ramsay prepares to make his mark in the Scottish Premiership once again, all eyes will be on his performance and contribution to Kilmarnock’s campaign for the rest of the season.
