Protesters Demand Increased Winter Fuel Payment for Pensioners at Holyrood

Government Announcement
The Scottish Government recently announced that starting next winter, every pensioner in Scotland will receive a minimum winter heating payment of £100. Additionally, individuals receiving pension credits or other benefits will be eligible for higher payments of £200 or £300, as stated by Social Justice Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville.
Proposed Amendments
In response to the government’s announcement, Scottish Labour is planning to introduce amendments to expand the winter heating payments under the devolved system. These amendments, to be presented during Stage 3 of the Social Security (Scotland) Bill, aim to include a provision for recovering funds from higher-income individuals through a tapering mechanism.
