A man in Orkney is currently in critical condition after an incident that took place in Kirkwall, a Scottish island. The police received reports of a disturbance outside a property in the area around 11 pm on Tuesday night. Paramedics also responded to the scene and discovered a 38-year-old man with serious injuries. He was promptly taken to Balfour Hospital and later transferred to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee early Wednesday morning. The man’s condition is listed as critical.

Additionally, a 39-year-old woman was also taken to Balfour Hospital by paramedics, but her current condition remains unknown. At the scene, a blue tent has been set up behind the Ayre Hotel, and the street is currently cordoned off as investigations continue.

A spokesperson from Police Scotland provided some details about the incident, stating that they were notified of the disturbance on Burnmouth Road in Kirkwall around 10:40 pm on Tuesday. The man was first taken to Balfour Hospital before being moved to Ninewells Hospital, where he is still in critical condition. The woman, on the other hand, was also brought to Balfour Hospital for treatment. The police are actively conducting inquiries into the matter.

Due to the police incident, Stagecoach Highland posted on Twitter about disruptions to services in the area. Burnmouth Road is currently closed, impacting the 4 and 9 services. The alternative route includes Great Western Road and Pickyquoy Road, followed by a left onto Junction Road before resuming the normal route of service.
