A flood alert remains in place in Scotland as heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to hit the UK.
As of Wednesday morning, there were 79 alerts warning of possible flooding across the UK, with flood warnings in place for 11 locations. The Scottish Borders is currently the only Scottish location under a flood alert, according to the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA).
The heaviest rain is expected in the eastern Borders and coastal areas, with chances of local disruption. In England, flood warnings were updated for the River Anker in Warwickshire and areas near the River Blackwater in Southampton.
Following a weather warning for thunderstorms in southern England, the Met Office forecasted showery rain moving into eastern parts of England with sunny spells in the south.
Additional warnings were issued for various locations in Warwickshire, Worcestershire, and Somerset, as well as for the B1040 Thorney to Whittlesey Road near the River Nene in Peterborough.
On Tuesday night, MP Ian Lavery highlighted severe flooding in parts of Northumberland due to extreme conditions. Roads in the Blyth area were closed, with response teams from Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service, Northern Powergrid, and Northumbria Water on site.
The M5 in Somerset was temporarily closed southbound on Tuesday afternoon due to flooding caused by heavy rainfall, as reported by National Highways.
